Fallout Boy face the music

Rock band Fall Out Boy fronted up to some hard questions at their New Zealand press conference this afternoon - but it wasn’t the media doing all the screaming and shouting.

The American act - who perform at Auckland's Vector Arena tonight - were greeted by a frenzied roar when they arrived at the Parnell College school gym for a question-and-answer session run by the students.

After a welcome from the school's head girl, the band was presented with individual plaques, celebrating their new album Folie a Deux going gold in New Zealand.

Members of the media took a back seat, leaving the hard questions to the teens.

"Do you pay your own phone bill?" asked one.

All four of the band's members quickly responded with a yes - apart from bassist Pete Wentz.

Looking sheepish, Wentz asked for all the teachers present to block their ears.

"My Dad still pays my phone bills - that is actually true," he confided.

Another student asked whether anyone in the band got homesick.

Wentz said while being away from his family was tough, it was made worthwhile by the excitement of overseas adventures.

"My son is three-months old - but we i-chat," he said.

"I don’t think he understands though. I don’t think he knows he’s related to me actually."

When asked if there was anything they wouldn’t want their mother to know, the band looked bemused.

Wentz recounted a story from a couple of years ago, when rumours of a sex tape starring Wentz surfaced on the internet.

"I had an interesting debacle on the net a few years ago. It involved pictures and other unpleasantries.

His said his mother later emailed him, saying: "Be more careful next time, son."

"And she still makes me French toast so we’re still on good terms," he said.

Playful bickering broke out between band members Patrick Stump and Joe Trohman as they debated contentious topics like which of the band’s albums was the best and whether they would stop playing music if it wasn't fun anymore.

As the dispute heated up, Wentz chuckled: "I think we maybe should have practiced this press conference".
